Mechanism

SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small molecule that acts as an agonist of the estrogen-related receptors (ERRs) — specifically ERRα, ERRβ and ERRγ. These orphan nuclear receptors are described in the literature as regulators of mitochondrial biogenesis and cellular energy metabolism.

Published preclinical work has investigated its capacity to activate ERR-dependent transcriptional programs, including genes involved in oxidative phosphorylation and fatty acid oxidation.

Why it exists in more than one form

SLU-PP-332 is a small molecule rather than a peptide. Peptides are cleaved by gastric and intestinal proteases, which is why most are supplied as lyophilized powder for reconstitution. Small molecules of this class are not substrates for those enzymes, so an oral capsule presentation is feasible alongside the vial.
